Guidelines for Expired Licences

Continuing from where we left off, you might find yourself in a situation where your licence has expired for more than six months. In this case, you’ll need to provide supporting documents to prove your identity, legal status, and Alberta residency.

If your licence has been lapsed for three years or longer, you’re required to pass both a Knowledge Test and a Road Test.

For out-of-province residents temporarily in Alberta, you can renew a Code F Licence. Just ensure you meet the eligibility criteria and are prepared for the fees involved.

If you’re under 18, remember that you’ll need a parent or legal guardian with you for the Knowledge Test.

Keep your documentation in order to avoid any unnecessary hassle.

As you prepare for the Knowledge Test, remember that these tests are available for all driver’s license classes in Alberta. The tests are designed to evaluate your understanding of traffic signs, rules of the road, and safe driving practices.

Here’s what you should know:

  • No appointment is required for the test. You can walk into any office during regular hours.
  • You must provide valid identification and proof of Alberta residency.
  • If you’re under 18, ensure you’re accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • The test isn’t limited to first-time drivers. If your license has lapsed for over three years, you’ll need to pass the test again.
  • The Knowledge Test is a crucial step in ensuring road safety. Prepare thoroughly to pass with flying colors.
